Linda and Joan were doing a roaring trade in The Bargeman and Butch was now regretting his previous evening’s lament about lack of business. But then, what else do you do with frustrated cricketers and their supporters when the Sunday afternoon match had to be abandoned, especially when Mytholmroyd and Holme Hill teams both thought that they would have won. The umpires had eventually awarded the ‘winning draw’ and the extra points to ‘Royd’, much to the home team’s disgust. But everyone was now drowning their sorrows in drink. So much so that Joan had ended up phoning her daughter to come and serve in the bar. Butch just managed to keep pace with the demand for his pub grub.
