Chapter Twenty-Seven - The Bloody Stranger

The wheezing security guard seemed to recover from the uncommon exertion of having to run a few hundred feet as he escorted Berkleigh inside the hospital. She tried to stay close, her head down to avoid calling undue attention to herself. A few police officers hustled past on their way down the hall, causing a wave of mild panic to surge down Berkleigh’s spine. 

“Begging your pardon, sir - can you tell me what this is about?” Berkleigh offered as she deftly removed the guard’s keychain from his straining belt. The guard slowly turned to face her, unable to hide the grim look on his face.
