Chapter Twenty-Six - Stranger Bedfellows

“If I was to tell the truth, I must say I’m surprised to see you alive,” Maria offered with a smirk as she helped Underbrink place Grimaldi’s unconscious body in the cozy trunk of the Quadrifoglio. Ever since he’d called her bluff several minutes before, the former Van Nostrand maidservant showed a side of herself that was truly unnerving. She appeared to  have no regard for her fellows that Underbrink killed upon his arrival, even her son Ernesto, whose body lay on an operating table, his chest cavity open wide.
