and Underbrink was the focus of all the cruelty and pain she could project out into the world. 

“That’s it! Into the cellar you go!” Underbrink tried to protest, but his mind was still trying to wrap around the presence of his older sister being here and antagonizing him anew. A hand that felt like steel cables wrapped around his wrist and began dragging him out of the bathroom. 

“Stop! Let me go!” Underbrink protested as Lori yanked him down the stairs to the main floor. She loomed over him just like she did when he was a little boy, an air of violence and bad thoughts radiating off her skin like smoke off a smoldering log. 

Lori didn’t say another word as they descended to the main level of the Van Nos...
