I’ll be back as soon as I can,” Underbrink said as he walked down the narrow path leading away from the lab. 

“I can’t wait to see how this all falls apart around your ears. You’ll need a much larger gun to deal with all the dangers awaiting you once you return to my home,” Van Nostrand taunted as Janelle’s grip on the weapon tightened. 

“You keep forgetting - that house is mine now, dangers inside and all. I’ll tear your life’s work down brick by brick if need be. Watch me,” Janelle threatened as she began the long walk back to what now passed for her home, steeling herself to deal with anyone or anything that may try to get in her way.
