She managed to make it to her knees before a trio of men grabbed and slashed at her. She did her best to protect herself, but all of Berkleigh’s senses were beginning to melt away as the only thing that seemed to fill her world was pain and a chorus of what sounded like a thousand angry voices. She slashed away blindly, some swings landing and some finding nothing. Soon, the voices disappeared as well, leaving only the pain as Berkleigh began to lose her razor-thin grasp on consciousness, her last effort to help Grimaldi dragging her to death’s door.
