September of 2017 and we were in the middle of another hurricane season. Living in Florida has always had its perks; hurricanes were never one of them. But, it was something you just had to live with in the Sunshine State. Like seeing six-foot lizards terrorizing your backyard. Or 85-year-old snowbirds terrorizing the road in boat-sized cars.

As you know, my family already had a brush with Hurricane Matthew the previous October. But it would be different nearly a year later. Hurricane Irma decided to bring its fury to South Florida’s doorstep and to be honest, this one had my wife and I a little nervous. Not as nervous as running errands and hoping you remembered the baby wipes when your toddler starts making the “I have to poop” face. But nervous nonetheless.
