The doctor inhaled deeply and exhaled just as.  Ida and her kinner all glanced at each other.  This was it, the nanosecond of truth.  Was Isaac alive or dead or somewhere in between?  What was the prognosis?  Was he going to be okay?  Ida’s family all encircled her and held her hands and arms.  She felt them practically holding her up, helping her just stand there, ready for whatever words the doctor said.
