staring blankly at the house.

     Minutes passed into half hours, then into hours.  To Isaac, it seemed like forever.  Even watching all the children play outside didn’t help the time pass any quicker.  Time was crawling like a wounded turtle, and it felt like his whole being was in that bedroom with Ida, where it had been during all the other of their children’s births, as she brought a new, incredible miracle into their family.  Hours turned into more hours until…Amy appeared at the barn door.

     “Isaac, it all be over.  You’re a daed again.”

     “Ida?”

     “She be fine.”

     “Well, what it be?  B...
