What is Channillo?
Channillo is a digital publishing platform for serialized literature. Since our launch on March 30, 2015, hundreds of writers have joined Channillo to publish their work in categories such as fiction novels, short stories, essays, columns, journal entries, and poetry.
Why should I consider releasing my work on Channillo?Creating a Channillo series will give you the opportunity to publish your work on an exciting new platform, earn money or support a favorite charity, reach and grow a new audience of loyal readers, and be a part of Channillo's supportive writer community.
What is a series?A Channillo series is a collection of related (or similar) work released on a regular basis over an extended period of time. Series categories include essays, columns, short stories, poetry, fiction books, & journal entries.
What are the basic rules for what is and is not allowed to be published on Channillo? All work published on Channillo must:
Do I retain ownership of work that I publish on Channillo?Yes. Writers retain ownership of any work published on Channillo.
How long can a series last?As long as you want it to. A series time span can be indefinite (meaning you can keep releasing new work for as many months or years as you wish). In fact, having a long-running series can be a good way to gradually build up a significant number of loyal subscribers. Of course, a series can also be short term with a pre-determined end date if you wish.
Can I publish work that is also available on my blog? No. Writers are not allowed to publish work that is currently available for free on another website. If you have work available on other websites that you'd like to release on Channillo, you must first remove it from those other sites.
Can I release a series of book chapters for a book that I've already published?
Yes, as long as the book is not available digitally for free and you own the rights to it.
Why can't I publish work in languages other than English?
We currently do not have the resources to run and monitor a multilingual site. However, we hope to be able to expand Channillo to other languages in the future.
Can I use a pseudonym or pen name?
Yes. However, you cannot impersonate someone else without their permission. Also, if you elect to receive payments we will need to know your real name for tax purposes, but a different name can be shown to readers.
What if my series gets accepted but I can't work on it right away?
You have up to six months after a series gets accepted to start releasing work. After six months of inactivity, the series may be deleted, and you will have to reapply for that series if you still wish to run it.
What happens if I don't update my series as often as I promised?
You may receive an inquiry from the Channillo support team regarding the status of your series, and/or we may change the 'Updated' setting on your series to reflect something more appropriate. Also, it is likely that readers may unsubscribe. If six weeks pass without any new work being published, the status of your series will be changed to 'Inactive' unless it is a 'Quarterly' series, or has already been marked as 'Completed'. Series with an 'Inactive' status will be ineligible to be featured on the Discover category pages. Also, if a series has an 'Inactive' status for over six months it may be automatically cancelled and removed from the site.
Can I can cancel my series and have it removed from the site?Yes, writers are allowed to cancel a series, and have their work removed from the site at any time. If you would like to have your series removed please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. After a series is removed, you will no longer receive payments, and forfeit the rights to any unpaid earnings your series may have accumulated. If your series has subscribers, we may ask that you post the remaining chapters of the book (if applicable/available) in order to give your current subscribers an opportunity to finish the story before the series is removed from the site.
My series is now complete and I will not be releasing any new material. Now what? Please let us know when your series is complete, so that we can change the status from 'Ongoing' to 'Completed'. Here are the current options for a completed series:
Are there any word count minimums or maximums.Nope. Word count is completely up to the writer.

You can request a series rerun by sending an email to email@example.com.
How much do writers get paid?
Channillo distributes 80% of total subscription revenue (after payment processing fees) to the writers. The amount of money each individual series earns is based on the number of Channillo members subscribed to that series. Writers not interested in receiving payments can elect to have the earnings for their series donated directly to a charity of their choice.
How often do writers get paid?
Payments are sent monthly. There is a minimum payment threshold of $50 per series. Any unpaid earnings accumulate from month to month until the threshold is passed.
How are writers paid?
Channillo pays writers using Paypal. If you wish to collect earnings, you must have a Paypal account.
Is Channillo a way for a writer to get rich quick?
Never say never, but that's not why we built it, and most Channillo writers will tell you that they don't do it for the money.
We do believe, however, that our payment/revenue sharing structure is more favorable to writers than many other platforms out there. Our per-subscriber based pay can be especially rewarding for writers who have or can grow a loyal fan base, and/or who work hard to promote their series.
Regardless of whether you end up earning enough to quit your day job, take a nice vacation, or just enough to pay for your coffee/tea addiction, we hope you find the opportunity to share your work with loyal readers rewarding in itself.
What if I'm not interested in earning money from my series?
Channillo offers the option to have the money you earn donated directly to a charity of your choice. Payments are subject our minimum payment threshold of $50 and the charity must accept donations via Paypal.
Why do I have to submit tax information to receive payments from Channillo?
Payments to writers are made by Channillo, Inc. Because Channillo is a U.S. based company, we are required by the United States Internal Revenue Service to collect the necessary tax information.
Do I still need to submit tax information if I am not a resident of the United States?
Yes, because Channillo is a U.S. based company, we are required by the Internal Revenue Service to collect tax information from all writers who receive payments from Channillo including those who reside outside the United States. The information we need from you will depend on the country you reside in.
Do I need to submit tax information if my earnings are being donated directly to charity?
No, if you are electing to have your earnings donated to charity the only information we need from you is the name of the charity you'd like us to donate to.
What happens to a writer's unpaid earnings if a series is cancelled and/or removed from the site?
Any unpaid earnings will be forfeited by the writer upon the removal of a series, and the amount will be added to the next month's total subscription revenue and distributed to other writers. One exception to this is if the series was a 'Channillo For Charity' series, in which case the unpaid earnings will be donated to the charity upon cancellation, even if the amount is below the $50 threshold.
What is 'Channillo for Charity'?'Channillo For Charity' is an option we give to writers that allows them to have any money their series earns be donated directly to a charity of their choice. Check out the Channillo For Charity page to learn more.
Will Channillo edit my series? No, editing is the responsibility of the writer, and should be completed before the work is uploaded to the site.
Will Channillo provide a series cover image? No, providing a custom series cover image is the responsibility of the writer. The cover image should be 330px x 460px in size and contain both the name and author of the series.
